Match played: 29 September 2007
Following last weeks win the Portobello faithful arrived at Ross High with high hopes of seeing thier side put up another good performance. Unfortunately they were left bitterly disappointed. This was a shocking display from a side that never looked up for this game and who were soundly and deservedly beaten. After an opening ten minutes that was breathtaking in its ineptitude Portobello found themselves 14 nil down and they never recovered from that start. By half-time Ross High had added another penalty to that total and led 17 -0.
Half Time: (17) Ross High vs. Portobello (0)
However the coaches were optimistic that with the advantage of the slope the game could still be won and Portobello got off to a perfect start with Kevin Bulloch scoring in the corner. Connor MacLeod struck a great conversion and the game was back on. However that was as good as it got and Ross High scored another couple of tries to a penalty by Connor and won 32 - 10.
Full Time: (32) Ross High vs. Portobello (10)
A combination of poor decision making and dreadful tackling cost Portobello this game. For large periods they dominated posession and territory but made nothing of it. Coach Ed Henderson set out a game plan which was never carried out. A bit of patience and 'heads-up' rugby and this was a game that could and should have been won. Its very difficult to pick out positives from this match although Matt Payne showed what a good addition he could be to the squad and the forwards performed well in the scrum.
Sean Hollywood showed up well in patches in the loose and dominated the middle of the line out but nobody staked a claim for man-of-the match.
