Match Report

This weeks match report is going to be short but not very sweet. As in previous weeks Portobello got off to a promising start with Ronnie Gallon showing great pace to go outside the Penicuik defence. Unfortunately his inside pass to his supporting players was intercepted and Penicuik were able to clear. That was about as good as it got in the 1st half as Porty suffered a set back when a woeful piece of refereeing allowed Penicuik to blatantly handle in the ruck, break down the blind side, kick ahead and win the chase to the touchdown. Two more scores quickly followed before Connor MacLeod kicked a penalty in a rare decision that went Portobello's way. Things were to get worse for Porty when Barry Marsh and Lee Dickson were forced to leave the field with back and head injuries respectively. Chris Weir and Vic Rickis came on and the scrums became uncontested.

Half Time: (17) Penicuik vs. Portobello (3)

A brief flurry from Portobello at the start of the second half was halted when Penicuik scored again securing a bonus point. Porty then had their best period of the game and a half break by Fraser Boyter and an off load in the tackle allowed Kevin Bulloch to score a good try. Connor converted and added a penalty and Portobello were back in the game at only 11 points behind. There was to be no revival as Penicuik scored tries at regular intervals aided by some shoddy defensive work by Portobello.

Full Time: (45) Penicuik vs. Portobello (13)

Summary

This was another poor away performance by Portobello and no amount of excuses can hide the fact that we were outfought by an ageing but determined Penicuik side and few Portobello players can emerge with credit. Ed Henderson made some timely interceptions and continued to show better form, Connor MacLeod competed well in the tight and made a telling contribution in the loose and Sean Hollywood fought manfully in defence but could not break the shackles in attack.

Man Of The Match

Man Of The MatchPenicuik Honorory President Jim Watt picked Ronnie Gallon as this weeks MOTM. Its no secret that the flying wing has been under pressure in recent weeks but he has responded in a positive manner and deserves this weeks plaudits.
