In an act of extreme kindness, Leith RFC donated their clubhouse for use as a fundraising race night on behalf of Portobello RFC. Proceeds from the race night were to be split equally between the Portobello Hornets Under 15 team and Portobello RFC Clubhouse fire fund. The total raised from what was a very enjoyable evening, was £385.
Thanks are extended from Portobello to Leith's President, John McMaster, his Committee and members and in particular Jeff Sutton for laying the foundations of the night. This act alone should result in a nomination for SRU 'Club of the Month' as not everything in this fine game of ours is necessarily about results on the park.
In the age of professional rugby, with discussion and argument about the rights and wrongs of Scottish rugby this act of generosity demonstrates what is right with Scottish rugby and shows that the true spirit of camaraderie and friendship that exists in rugby, even between the closest of rivals, can be transcended when the chips are down.
Thanks again.
