31 August 2007 - Newsletter - August 2007
It's that time of year already – the start of another season – one which will give us quite a challenge both in terms of playing and off the field (the clubroom to be precise).
- Forthcoming fixtures
- Promoted to East Region League Division 1 after an unbeaten campaign in 2, we begin this season's at North Berwick on 1st September, followed by Broughton (due at home but re-arranged to Wardie) on 8th, Dunbar at Hallhill on 15th and Hawick Harlequins will be at Duddingston on 25th.
- Clubroom
- On the clubroom front – work is due to start in the next few days with a hope of watching RWC Final (Sat 20th Oct) on new television in new surroundings. The next stage of the consultation process is provisionally arranged for weekend 8th / 9th September – details to be informed via website.
- Subscriptions
- Subscriptions generally are as last season (increase in youth subs) but we have added a Life Membership category at a cost of £1,000 (this does not include 100 Club 'membership' and players should note that neither does it include weekly playing subscription). Full (and hopefully correct) details on attached sheet.
- Fund-raising
-
Upcoming fund-raising initiatives to cover expenditure included in club's re-instatement are:
- Sat. 25 August – Bucket Collection at World Cup warm-up match: Scotland v South Africa
- Golf Day – details to follow
- RWC Forecast Cards – members 'expected' to support and being sent to all clubs in Scotland as well as online
- Dinner in Portobello Town Hall on Saturday 13th October – a 'Burns' night – it will become clear in the fullness of someone's imagination. Auction items in hand include signed Scotland shirt and ball, (also hope for England, Ireland and Wales), Brazil retro shirt signed by Barcelona players
I can't tell you yet who is Captain this season as it remains to be decided but what I can inform is that we are more than pleased to have Chris Thomas, Chris Davis, Fraser Boyter and David McQueen commit to the Club after sojourns in Musselburgh colours). And no less pleased to see Sean Hollywood return from Boroughmuir, bringing younger brother, Seamus, with him.
One or two newcomers too worthy of mention – Keith Alison and Graham Robertson from Watsonians (Keith was a mini here about 15 years ago). Welcome one and all – we hope that you enjoy your time with us as much as we look forward to your presence in Porty colours. We're looking for good performances from our established players to make this as enjoyable a season as last.
Also, Ed continues to keep Porty at the forefront of rugby club websites with the imperious portyrugby.com - please log in regularly to be kept informed.
It would be helpful to have email addresses to be able to communicate more readily – please let me have a note of yours
