A MAJOR fundraising drive is to take place to help refurbish a city rugby club gutted by fire.
Members of Portobello Rugby Club have vowed to help raise money to rebuild their clubhouse, which was torched by vandals in May.
Among the events planned are a charity golf day, a fundraising dinner and a special collection at Scotland's next international fixture at Murrayfield. Club officials are also to canvass local businesses in Portobello for donations.
The fire, which police said was started deliberately, left the clubhouse on Duddingston Road West a burnt-out shell when it broke out on May 27.
Three senior rugby teams, seven junior teams and Marchmont Cricket Club were left homeless as a result of the blaze, although they still train at the facility.
Former Scotland international Scott Hastings has already given his support to the campaign, commenting that he was sure the Porty spirit would ensure that the local community get behind the club
