30 May 2007 - Clubhouse Update
On behalf of all the members of Porty, may I thank all who have written with messages of support following the fire in the club house.
In the cold light of day on Monday, a closer inspection of the damage revealed that the structure of the building appears to be intact. We will await the inspection from the insurance company loss adjustor to determine what will be required to restore the club.
The committee of the club met last night to discuss where we are and where we want to be. The following are the salient points from the meeting.
- The overwhelming view is that we should stay at Duddingston in a revamped, perhaps even enhanced club house.
- Matt Eastwood, Murdo McLaughin and Tommy Marshall have been appointed as joint project managers and will oversee the refurbishment/rebuilding.
- The committee have set a deadline of 31st August on the project.
- Discussions will take place with the Council and our political allies regarding an extension of the lease and use of the roundhouse.
- The committee instructed those in charge to keep the members and well wishers of the progress in regular updates via the website.
- Detailed information will be forthcoming at the AGM now scheduled for Tuesday 12 June at a venue to be confirmed.
Some ideas expressed last night will involve financial commitment so be prepared!
